Batman Eternal #2
To say that Jim Gordon has gotten himself into trouble is quite the understatement. With the blood of a lot of people on his hands, Gotham’s Commissioner is destined to spend the rest of his life in the slammer. The Dark Knight refuses to believe that this was all Jim’s fault, and in Batman Eternal #2, he puts his detective hat on to get to the bottom of this mystery.
Unlike issue #1, the focus is on investigation rather than action. As Batman searches the city for clues, more sinister forces that may be involved are up to no good. All of this exposition isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as it’s well done and fills in just enough of the gaps while leaving readers anxious for more. Having an issue this light on action also works fine within the context of this being a weekly publication, as you’re going to get the next fix in just a few days.
Batman Eternal #2 serves its purpose as a means of pushing the story forward. Even though I told myself that I would wait for the book, I happened to be at a comic book store the day #2 came out as Steff was buying the new Ms. Marvel and Harley Quinn. I keep telling myself that I’m going to stop and wait, it’s hard to fight the temptation when this series is currently off to a hot start.
