The Walking Dead: Season 2 – Episode 1: All That Remains Review

Season 2 of The Walking Dead video game puts you in the shoes of Clementine. Despite being a little bit older and painfully aware of the world around her, she’s still very much a child. This is the theme that drives episode 1 and will likely carry through the season if she manages to make it through. After playing through the events from All That Remains, I really hope she does make it through.

When things start out, she’s managed to regroup with a few of her friends from the first season. However, the warmth of familiarity dissipates quickly, and she spends much of this episode alone. The dread of having to play as Clem at her most vulnerable is quite the gut-wrenching experience. Then, in classic Walking Dead fashion, the game plays the “people are worse than the zombies” card, as a group she stumbles upon refuses to trust her.

With five episodes of practice, season 2 smoothly carries the momentum over while polishing most of the technical and design faults from before. For me, this one was free of any real glitches or design faults that got in the way of me enjoying the story. All That Remains systematically tugged at my heart strings and left me feeling like a complete mess by the end of it. I can’t wait for episode 2.
