Jett Plays: 003 – Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition

In my third attempt at recording a Let’s Play, I take on the world in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. I try to talk about how Rose became the right character for me, though the stiff competition I faced made that difficult to say the least.

You seem so much more confident with Rose than you do with Cammy, maybe that is just down to experience. The last match with Makoto shows that, even if you are scared of Seth’s SPD’s, Cammy is still just as scary 🙂 Good stuff, keep it going!

I’m way out of practice with Cammy. She’s one of my all-time favourite Street Fighter characters and I love her play-style in IV, but it’s never worked out the way things have with Rose. I eventually reached 11,000 BP with Cammy, but I’ve only gotten worse with her since. That match with Seth is one of my worst Cammy performances in a while and personally it sucks that it made the video, but oh well. Here’s my Cammy when it wasn’t as terrible.

Cammy is a very cool SF character! Good use of the dive kick and normals and your links were tight, but as this is an order video i am sure you are more used to getting that vortex going even more now.

Rose is a strange one I feel. Have you seen players like Luffy from the EU use her? Very strong player.

I don’t think Rose is strange at all, actually. She’s versatile enough to play rushdown or lame. She also has very few bad match-ups. She’s also easy to learn. Much of her game isn’t dependent on combos, so her execution requirements are lower, too. Transitioning from someone like Ryu to Rose isn’t that difficult. The problem is, compared to the rest of the cast, she doesn’t really have much in the way of stand-out strengths. If you want a fireball character, you’re better off with Ryu or Akuma. If you want to rush in, pick Cammy. If you want great normals, pick Fei Long. For the majority of players, she’s probably not worth it unless you like every component of her game. I’m excited for her Ultra Street Fighter IV buffs to kick in, though I’m likely going to put in a lot of effort to learn Rolento. I love him in Street Fighter X Tekken and can’t wait to play him in a game that I still like.

Luffy is the Rose player. He can switch very freely between aggressive or defensive play styles. He also makes great use of her pokes to control the ground game.

I have to say other than fighting her, my only experience of Rose comes from her early days or watching some of the older excellent adventures. Her ultra 2 set-ups seem fun though, I remember when super first dropped and it took some time to people to adjust to the mix-ups.

Ultra will be great I think. Yang is going to be getting his cross up back, and increased walk speed which is just a bonus in my eyes.

I think that If Capcom can actually do what they are saying and shorten the gap between the top and mid tier then I think everyone has something to be excited about!

Dreamhack winter is coming up, so it won’t be a long wait to see what he has to show us again. Popi should hopeful be in attendance again as well.
